Can translucent stone be backlit?

Yes — this is the defining use for onyx and translucent marbles. We recommend LED panels with even diffusion behind 20 mm slabs and can supply backlit sample panels before ordering.

Is onyx suitable for kitchen countertops?

Onyx is softer than marble or quartzite and is generally not recommended for everyday kitchen surfaces. It performs beautifully as a bar front, vanity, or feature surface.
